A gap property of deterministic tree languages

چکیده
We show that a tree language recognized by a deterministic parity automaton is either hard for the co–Büchi level and therefore cannot be recognized by a weak alternating automaton, or is on a very low level in the hierarchy of weak alternating automata. A topological counterpart of this property is that a deterministic tree language is either Π 1 complete (and hence non Borel), or it is on the level Π 3 of the Borel hierarchy. We also give a new simple proof of the strictness of the hierarchy of weak alternating automata. For Anatol Slissenko at his 60th birthday.

Relating Word and Tree Automata
In the automata-theoretic approach to verification, we translate specifications to automata. Complexity considerations motivate the distinction between different types of automata. Already in the 60’s, it was known that deterministic Büchi word automata are less expressive than nondeterministic Büchi word automata. The proof is easy and can be stated in a few lines. In the late 60’s, Rabin prov...

متن کاملClasses of Tree Languages and DR Tree Languages Given by Classes of Semigroups
In the first section of the paper we give general conditions under which a class of recognizable tree languages with a given property can be defined by a class of monoids or semigroups defining the class of string languages having the same property. In the second part similar questions are studied for classes of (DR) tree languages recognized by deterministic root-to-frontier tree recognizers.
متن کاملResidual Finite Tree Automata
Tree automata based algorithms are essential in many fields in computer science such as verification, specification, program analysis. They become also essential for databases with the development of standards such as XML. In this paper, we define new classes of non deterministic tree automata, namely residual finite tree automata (RFTA). In the bottom-up case, we obtain a new characterization ...
متن کاملDeterministic Fuzzy Automaton on Subclasses of Fuzzy Regular ω-Languages
In formal language theory, we are mainly interested in the natural language computational aspects of ω-languages. Therefore in this respect it is convenient to consider fuzzy ω-languages. In this paper, we introduce two subclasses of fuzzy regular ω-languages called fuzzy n-local ω-languages and Buchi fuzzy n-local ω-languages, and give some closure properties for those subclasses. We define a ...
